YILDIRIM Acquires ROTAPORT

KOCAELI, TURKEY, December 18, 2012 —YILDIRIM GROUP continued its expansion in shipping and port operations with the acquisition of RotaPort.

YILPORT HOLDING, a subsidiary of YILDIRIM GROUP, acquired 100% shares in RotaPort, which has been operating in Korfez, Kocaeli since 1995 with the largest warehousing capacity in the region thanks to its general warehouses and grain and cement terminals.

YILDIRIM Group plans to invest a total amount of 200 million USD in restructuring and addition of new equipment to transform RotaPort into an industry and regional leader in liquid cargo and general warehousing.

Located at a distance of 80 kms from Istanbul and 320 kms to Ankara, Rotaport boasts a discharge capacity of 15,000 tons/ day and has links to two railway loading/ discharge stations. With a sea depth of 23 metres, it can handle panamax and larger sized vessels with six berths with a total length of 880 metres. RotaPort has been operating in the region as an ISPS approved port.

The warehouses in RotaPort are LME (London Metal Exchange) approved and they also can be utilized in trade finance transactions. They serve a wide range of products such as dry bulk, metals, liquid cargo as well as food and construction materials.

The grain terminal has a total stocking capacity of 100,000 tons and has a discharge capacity of 15,000 tons/ day for free flowing materials and 7,500 tons/ day for non-free flowing capacity. On the other hand, the cement terminal has two grey cement silos of 10,000 tons each and a vertical, white cement silo of 6,000 tons.

YILDIRIM’s mid-term plans include moving its shipyard, Marmara Shipyard, which is located next to the port to another location and increasing its total area to 150,000 m2 and the total handling capacity to 10 million tons.

In accordance with its mission to be a top global port operator, YILDIRIM has been consistently investing in the sector and its brand name, YILPORT is now being identified as the most technologically advanced operator with customer satisfaction in top priority.

After the acquisiton, the name of the port will be changed to “YILPORT YARIMCA” and will be transformed into the region’s leading general, liquid and bulk cargo handling ports in line with YILPORT’s corporate vision and strategy.
